Glammy Myspace!

Hello all! Well I just wanted to say hi after a weekend of four weddings, two touch ups, and non stop trials! Yesterday I went from 6 am to 8 pm straight through. This weekend has truly make me realize how much I LOVE my job.

There is a great internal reward in fulfilling your passion. My parents always told me "Alexa-- when you forget what time it is, you have found your passion"-- and it's true. When I am doing makeup... despite the fact that I follow my little anal retentive schedules I make to the T on wedding days... there is a true "loss of time" in an artistic sense.

Have you ever been so engrossed in something that its two hours later and the time just flew? You weren't thinking about laundry, or boy drama, or washing dishes, or dog walking... you simply were lost with your work.

I feel that I have a mission for a bridal makeup-- and it far exceeds the bride being "pretty." I have to, in the short time I meet the bride, get a true sense of personality. I have to take where she wants to go with the look, whether its natural or glam and compare her gauge to mine... making totally sure that both of our ideas of "natural" and "glam" are the same.

In addition, I have to make sure this look we are creating, which is both an extension of the bride's personality and physical beauty, is totally light responsive, flawless, and great looking both two and twenty feet away. Oh and not to mention that it has to be sweat proof, cry proof, and weightless. All of these elements need to work in perfect unison. Its alot more than, "Here's you eyeshadow, have a great day!"

That being said the true indicator that these elements have all come together in some sort of harmony, to me at least, is indicated by one quick gasp. The bride looks in the mirror, puts her hand on her chest and when I hear that exquisite response of not only approval but true appreciation-- I feel, as an artist at least, that I have been able to really externalize and portray what is going on in a bride's heart.

Bride after bridesmaids, mother-of-the-bride after mother-of-the-groom... non-stop makeup this weekend and I can look at what most people would call "work" as a true outlet to explore my passion. Even more... I can still look back at each and every makeup and say... I made that girl feel fantastic! And ya know what? That is just great.

Well the real reason I was blogging tonight was to let you guys know that in addition to my website and my blog I also have a Glam Fairy myspace-- www.myspace.com/theglamfairy Feel free to check it out. I love friend requests so friend me ladies. And If I've done your makeup... email me pictures so I can post them.

Well I think its about time to wrap up this weekend... hehe. Ive spent most of the evening turning my balcony into an "outdoor living room" thanks to the oh so inspiring Pottery Barn. To bed I go.

Love ya,

Glammy
