In a world where we have a universal scale for almost every school of thought, you would think there would be a universal scale for makeup. But unfortunately there is not. There are no “facts” per say. There is only opinion and preference.

Because of this, most identify what they understand to be a “truth” about makeup as an actual “fact.” And the way that most people gather these truths are typically by the dominant female role in your life. Meaning if mom loves coral lipstick than you either love it too (or passively revolt by wearing pink). But either way, it’s some sort of compass for you to navigate the world of makeup. I can remember being told at a young age “black liner doesn’t look good on anyone.”

And I actually believed that! I accepted that as a valid, justified truth, as much as I accepted a simple math equation.

So what sort of universal scale can a makeup artist use? Well remove the word “makeup” from “artist” and you have a world that is defined by nothing other than shadow, light, and color. And that is precisely what The Glam Academy uses as a universal scale. We show our students that they most likely understand makeup and beauty through a lens defined by preference, trends, and societies definition of “beauty.”

By extracting this lens and using the same laws of color and light than any other artist would—the student is able to perceive makeup and its capacity at an entirely different level.

This entire understanding happens over the first two days of The Glam Academy, where the student is immersed in a world of education that will absolutely impact their work.

After this new perception is developed the student will find their natural talent pouring through their hands, as they are now free of un-justified “rules.”
